Makeup Monday: MAC X Proenza Schouler

{Source: Style.com}
Today's Makeup Monday is all about the upcoming MAC collection that is a collaboration between the Makeup brand and the fashion label Proenza Schouler. The whole reason I even found out about this collection is the fact that I was paging through the latest Allure issue earlier today. Now that I've seen it, I'm obsessed and feel like pinning every thing I can come across regarding the collection! Thankfully it seems I won't have to wait soon to get my hands on it :)

Funday Sunday: T.M.I. Tag

Today's I decided to do the  T.M.I. tag that Sydney from SydneyLuella posted. It is based of the variation of the tag that's been going around on Youtube, but she decided to narrow it down from the usual 50 so that it was more fit for a blog and tagged anyone who came around to read it, including those that are part of the HCBN. Tags are always so fun so I thought, why not. Here we go.

Friday Favorites: Things That Made Me Happy

Picture I took in Brooklyn while I was there :)
For this week's Friday Favorites I wanted to feature things that made me happy this week. I wanted to keep it positive since I had a long and tiring week, but I've been doing May Cause Miracles (click here to find out more) which has helped keep the negativity to a minimum. The blog title is also inspired by a segment on NPR's podcast, Pop Culture Happy Hour (I highly recommended listening to it). So here is the positive things I focused on, loved, and was grateful for.

Thoughts on Thursday: Take a Break

After 2 weeks, you finally get a Thursday post, yayyy!!
Today I want to talk about knowing when to take a break from technology and disconnect. I should probably be the last person writing this since I'm constantly on my computer, phone or iPad, but alas here I am writing about the importance of taking a break from it all.

Blogger Love: Help Megan Out

I know there was not Trendy Tuesday post yesterday, so sorry about that. I had something planned but it's taking me a bit longer to find the examples I want to give for that so it will be posted next Tuesday. Also, Workday Wednesday will make a comeback next week. Today however I wanted to spread some love to a fellow Her Campus blogger, Megan from the blog Lush to Blush.

Motivation Monday: Challenging Yourself

{Source: Pinterest}
Today I wanted to dedicate the post to the idea of challenging yourself. I think that challenging yourself and seeing how far you can go is one of the most important things in life. Even if you fail or you don't get too far in the challenge, what matters is that you try and when you look back and see what you did accomplish, you know that the next time, you can get a little further.

Meet Charlie!

Say "Hello" to Charlie
Meet Charlie! He is my new 3 month old(the shelter estimates) fox wire terrier and he is the best puppy ever!! In my last post I told you guys that I had been going to the animal shelter a lot last week in hopes of adopting a dog. This was not a decision I made on a whim, but one I thought about long and hard for a little over a year.

I first went to the shelter on Sunday, but most of the dogs weren't available for adoption quite yet. However, there were two particular ones I made a connection with almost immediately, a puggle, that got adopted before I arrived on Wednesday morning, and this little guy that I had the privilege of adopting on Saturday :)

Friday Favorites: Four Things That Got Me Through the Week

So this week has had it's up and downs. School was slightly less stressful, but there was still a lot going on. I also though I was gonna get a puppy this week, but sadly the one I was gonna get got adopted by someone else(doesn't mean I'm gonna stop my search). There were also some other personal things that  went on and I felt like I had zero energy somedays. Thankfully there were four things that got me through the week.

Trendy Tuesday: Overalls Make a Comeback

Lazy Day: overalls

Lazy Day: overalls by astridstars featuring Sass & Bide

Today's Trendy Tuesday was actually suggested, jokingly, by one of my friends via Twitter. After tweeting about what I should write for today, my friend Kry (met her in NY, but she's from Portland, Go West Coast!) jokingly suggested I feature overalls or fanny packs. I chose overalls LOL.

Motivational Monday: St. Patty's Edition

{Source: My3monsters.com}
In honor of St. Patty's Day, I wanted to write a motivation Monday about luck. Personally I do find myself to be lucky every once in a while, but not because I think opportunities and good fortune just spill out of the sky. No I believe luck is much more what you make of an opportunity and the hard work that allows those opportunities to be available. Like the quote says, luck is about preparation and opportunity, simple as that.

Friday Favorites: Babies & Grad Stuff

So I know I missed two post this week. Some weeks are just gonna be like that depending on what's going on with school stuff or anything personal that may come up. Anyway, will still always try my best to post everyday and make sure no more than 2 days go by without a post.

 On to my Friday Favorites :)

Trendy Tuesday: Radiant Orchid Beauty

Radiant Orchid Beauty
Radiant Orchid Beauty by astridstars on Polyvore

So this year Pantone named Radiant Orchid as color of the year and I'm excited that they did. While I still haven't seen much of the color, I'm pretty sure that with spring around the corner, it will be popping up a lot more. I am really liking this sort of lilac pink and its many shades both in fashion and in beauty, but I do tend to like it more as a beauty trend.

Must-See Monday: Mid Season Shows

'

So I know I typically do MakeUp Mondays, but as I've mentioned before, I won't be a hard stickler to a weekly feature if I want to do something different from week to week or if I find nothing that can be used on a weekly feature. Also, I will have a few different weekly features anyway, so that way things get shaken up every once in a while. Anyway, today's post is a Must-See Monday.

I want to talk about a few of the shows I'm excited to watch during Mid-Season. Mid Season for those of you who may not know the term refers to the time in between TV seasons and often starts around the end of winter and the beginning of spring, that means, we are right in it. So what am I excited about for MidSeason while some of my regular shows are on hiatus or done for the season?

I Became a BeachBody Coach!!

So if you follow me on Instagram or even on Tumblr or Twitter you might have figured out that I like to stay pretty healthy and fit. You may also have figured out that I've been doing the 21 day fix challenge that is sold through BeachBody. If you don't know what BeachBody is, it is the company that sells P90x, Insanity, and the Brazilian Butt Lift among other popular fitness programs. Today (Sunday) counts as my last day on the fix. Now while the fix may be over, I will most likely keep following it, just not so strictly since I'm at my goal weight. I love that the focus has been on portion control and hasn't been overly restrictive. Also love that due to it, my abs are coming in :)

Anyway, during the fix I not only got re-motivated to focus on my nutrition and fitness after my return from New York, but also seriously started thinking about becoming a BeachBody coach. I had been approached about a year ago while doing Tone It Up's Love Your Body Challenge by another fellow TIU member about becoming a coach, but at the time I wasn't ready and was also kind of skeptical about the whole thing since not too long before that, someone tried to get me to sign up for what I later learned was a Ponzi Scheme. Anyway, even though I decided not to sign up to be a coach, I still continued to be friends with her and also made friends with other BeachBody coaches. This allowed me to be part of challenge groups that kept me accountable as well as motivated.

{Source}
Then finally, over the course of the fix I started really thinking of becoming a coach myself. I had gotten to a point in my life where I felt good about myself, I was regaining my confidence with my fitness goals and I saw that I was also motivating others around me. Well I took the plunge this weekend after much thought and also because I had been offered a discount on Shakeology which could only be obtained if I signed up as a coach. So that was it! And now I am so excited that I am a part of Team Beachbody. My goal with this is to continue my fitness journey and also to help motivate others on their own fitness journeys.

Now if you have any questions, I am happy to answer. If you want to start on your fitness journey or simply want to get motivated to continue on yours, then feel free to reach out to me and I'm willing to help anyway I can. Also feel free to ask questions about the fix or any other program from BeachBody! Like I said my main motivation to be a part of this amazing team is because so far my experience as just a customer has been wonderful and motivating and I want to spread the love and motivate others myself. I will still continue with Tone It Up and my other fitness communities, but I am so glad to be a much bigger part of something that's related to fitness.

So if you do have questions or even would like me to be your coach,  click here to find out more and connect with me. I would be more than happy to help you reach your goals.

Love,
Astrid

Springing Forward:DST

{Source}
Just a little reminder that Spring is around the corner and its that time of year that we have to change our clocks to one hour ahead (except for Arizona). That's right, it's time to lose an hour of sleep so we can stay out longer lol. While I do hate that I "lose" an hour of sleep as I already sleep so little (even though I slept ALL day today), I am excited for the even warmer weather (hello California girl) and having longer days filled with sunshine. I am also excited to wear spring fashions!

What are you excited about now that you get an extra hour of sun?

Love,
Astrid

P.S. DST starts at 2 a.m. March 9th.

Friday Favorites: Short and Simple

So first off, I know that I didn't' post anything for Thursday this week. School spread me quite thin this week and Thursday just got crazier since I also had work. Anyway, there were a few things this week that kept me from imploding this week. Without further ado, here are my Friday Favorites:

{Source}
1. This image made my week. You might have seen it already if you follow me on Tumblr. I came across it when I wasn't paying attention in class LOL because yes I think class means looking for pictures of cute dogs on Tumblr and Pinterest.

{Source}

2. I also have really love naps LOL. As mentioned, this week has been pretty crazy and this means my already awful sleep schedule got thrown off even more. But thankfully, there's a nap for that. I usually hate naps, but I've been so grateful for them this week.

3. Of course this video made my week, I mean I only hear this every day I go to work. In all seriousness I can't get enough of the song and love that Jimmy Fallon saved the day after the Oscars kinda screwed up Idina Menzel's performance. Plus Jimmy and the Roots are just awesome.

So I'm sticking with those 3 things this week. I was busy but these 3 things kept me from crying in a corner. What were your favorite things this week?

Love,
Astrid

Workplace Wednesdays: Beware What You Share

{Source}

Sorry I am posting this Workplace Wednesday post late, school has been a bit crazy, but I still wanted to write something, if ever so brief. This has to do in relation to what you share at work, whether it's an internship or an actual job. As I'm sure most of us are connected, if not addicted to Social Media, but we have to be very careful about this when it comes to sharing at work.

Now let me clarify that I'm not necessarily referring to your boss looking up your Facebook or Twitter (although be careful about that too), but about posting pictures of you at work or of what you are working on. I've noticed this is especially important if you work in Entertainment such as in production or on set.

I remember when I was interning for a production company last summer that they actually had me sign an NDA agreement which is basically a contract stating they could sue me if I breach a confidentially clause by sharing information or pictures of what the company was working on. This is actually not a joke and it is perfectly legal! Now I've worked at places where they were a lot less strict about what we shared and some even encouraged Instagram posts, but we still have to tread lightly.

You can in fact get in a lot of trouble for oversharing. My mom reminded me of this when she mentioned that the father of the foster child my aunt looks after, who is some sort of lighting director or part of a film crew, had to fire a guy after he found out pictures from the set were being shared on Facebook. It really is a serious matter. So whether or not you are asked to sign an NDA, please be mindful of posting work related stuff online, no matter how tempting. It really is better to be safe than sorry.

Astrid

Trendy Tuesday: Boyfriend Jeans + Strappy Heels

Boyfriend Jeans Elegance

Boyfriend Jeans Elegance by astridstars featuring boyfriend jeans

So for this Trendy Tuesday, I decided to do boyfriend jeans. Originally I was going to do the pajama pant trend, but seems I've been late to that, probably because in NY those well weren't cozy enough lol. Anyway, lately I've been seeing a lot of cuffed jeans and white shirts, but all dressed up, and I'm loving it.

I am definitely the kind of girl that lives in her jeans, and being petite, I often have to cuff my jeans up anyway, so this trend fits me to a Tee(pun intended). However, I hate that sometimes the slouchy jean can lean toward the frumpy side if not styled right. So how do you make them work?

Well for starters, make sure the fit is not overly loose, especially if you are on the more petite side like me, or else they just swallow you up. Also, aim for the lighter washes and maybe choose one with distressed details.Next, choose either a thing white slouchy t-shirt(or tank :) ) or choose a nice white crisp, structured shirt or one with detail.

After that it's all about the accessories, most specifically, the shoes. STRAPPY HEELS. That is all you need to remember in the shoe department lol. But seriously, I am obsessed with how boyfriend jeans look with strappy, preferably pointy, heels. Then add some nice jewelry, yet elegant jewelry like some gold bangles or a statement necklace. Add a bright color clutch, and voilá!

So what do you think of this trend? Love it or hate it, let me know in the comments. And remember, you should always make the trend your own, add your own touch to make it your style!

Love,
Astrid

MakeUp Monday: Oscars 2014

So I know this is going on more like Tuesday than Monday, but let's pretend everyone owns a unicorn and say its Monday. Anyway, this past weekend was the end of the awards season for many stars with the award ceremony of all awards ceremonies, the Oscars. While I love the dresses, um hello Jessica Biel, I want your husband AND your dress, I also paid attention to the makeup. So here are my top 3 favorite makeup looks of the night.

1. First up is Olivia Wilde, who is really pulling off pregnancy beautifully.
{Source}
I love that she went for a very classic 60's look. For one, I am a sucker for thick cat eye's but I also love that she kept the eyes bold but everything else simple. The eye liner really makes her gorgeous eyes stand out and overall the look is pure elegance.

2. Another look I really loved last night was Margot Robbie's look.
{Source}
There is just something about a girl wearing vampy lipstick that does it for me. Needless to say Margot Robbie is gorgeous, and while I do miss the blonde a bit, I am totally crushing on this femme fatale look. It does help I've very much been into the dark berry lipstick look and that this stands out amid the tons of natural makeup looks and the smokey eye + nude lips dominating look. And I now also have new brows to envy, so kudos to you Ms. Robbie.

3. Last but not least, I loved winner Lupita Nyong'o's look.

{Source}
What I love about her look is that it seems to have been the only look last night that screamed light and youthful. While everyone else seemed to go for a more grown up, classic, and sophisticated look, Ms. Nyong'o had a look that was just fun and refreshing. It definitely heightened her Cinderella look. From that glowing blush to the orange lips, it is just perfection. It makes you want to just go hug her and dance to Pharell's Happy. It also helps that her skin seems to be one of the most flawless in all of Hollywood.

Well those were my top 3 looks, although I do have other favorites, but those are more based on the gorgeous woman I love to see act lol. I hope you enjoyed this late little Makeup Monday. Now I want to know, what were your favorite looks of the night? This can also include the dresses, cuz come on, you know its why we tune in in the first place (unless you just like awards shows like me, there's that too). Did we like the same looks?

Love,
Astrid

Mini Trip to Ojai

So I hope you guys are enjoying the new layout. I know I kept constantly changing it this weekend, but I will try to fight the urge to change it. I just can't seem to settle for the look I want, so I'll see what you guys end up liking best, after all this blog is all for you :)

Anyway, I finally had my sinus situation controlled today and was able to take a little trip to Ojai with one of my Meetup book groups. Even though it was still a bit rainy, it was still a nice day to drive out to Bart's Books, an outdoor independent bookstore.

Bart's books, Ojai
{Source: Me}
Inside (well within the bookstore) there were tons of books and they even had a classics room where my friend Vanessa managed to get an almost mint condition of H.G. Wells The Invisible Man for only $12.  It is a pretty cool store just for the fact that it is all outdoors, but no worries the books are covered, so they weren't wet or anything. It is also nice that the store takes credit cards so you don't have to worry if you didn't bring cash with you. Here are a few pictures of the "inside":

Isn't it cute? I don't know about you, but I like being able to drive an hour or so away from L.A. and take mini trips to quirky places like this one. I am still in awe that this bookstore exists and so grateful Vanessa suggested a visit to it. And if you are asking if I resisted buying more books, you are wrong LOL. I mean who can resist buying books from such a unique place AND at a discount. So this is what I got for $26 (sorry for the bad pic):

{Source: Me}
I had wanted to read The Help, The Weird Sisters and Girls in White Dresses for a while and Vanessa suggested Defending Jacob since we were discussing mystery novels at the bookstore. I still can't believe what I paid for all for since each is about $15 at retail price. Anyway that wasn't the only thing we did in Ojai. After everyone had gotten their books( it was 8 of us), we decided to go look for the strawberry shortcake place my sister had told me to check out, she swore it was the best she's ever had, and it seems she was right, 'cause it was delicious (Yes I detoured from the 21 day fix a bit).

My sister didn't remember the name of the restaurant however, so we had to search for it on Yelp, which wasn't hard to do as it seemed to be pretty popular. So off we went to Boccali's, which was equally as cute, and had some great views of the mountains that surround Ojai. The only downside to this cute little joint is that they only take cash or check, so do come prepared if you make the trip.

This picture does not do the mountains justice.

The girls admiring the mountain view while waiting for our table.

Their Specials menu outside their door.

Yummy Minestrone soup.

And the reason we ended up at Boccali's...The Strawberry Shortcake
Overall, it was a pretty fun min trip out of the city. It is completely doable in a day and we all had a great time discussing books, the latest fashion in glasses, and catching up on what else is going on in each other's life. Also, even with the rain, Ojai is beautiful no matter what. I will definitely be going back, especial when it gets a bit warmer since Ojai also has some amazing hiking trails. So if you live  in Southern California, say L.A. or are visiting, I would 100% recommend you make a trip to Ojai for some deeply discounted books and the best Strawberry Shortcake in the area.

Love,
Astrid

The Liebster Award

I'm really excited for this post as it is my first blog tag ever and well because it came through from one of the first comments I've had on the site. I got nominated for the Liebster Award by Pretty In Glam (P.S. Her blog is so pretty lol I love it).
